Like you, I believe deeply in the fundamental right every LGBTQ+ student has to a learning environment that celebrates who they are. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for many students.
Over half of LGBTQ+ students were sexually harassed in the past year at school.
16% of LGBTQ+ students reported having changed schools due to feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. 13% were physically assaulted, punched, kicked, or injured with a weapon in the past year at school.
Through research, student-led advocacy, and educator training, GLSEN will continue to expand our efforts in 2023—transforming our nation’s schools into the supportive and affirming environment that all youth deserve.
