John,
I’m gonna make this quick: In a few hours, I’m going to have to sign off on our budget for 2023. There’s a big budget hole, and emails like this are the only way we’ll make up for that gap.
I’m leaning towards authorizing the programs that will give us the best chance to fight Republican attacks on our Social Security system, even if it puts us in a financial jam, because that’s what Social Security Works does.
But if you can make a donation before midnight, it’s going to make it a whole lot easier for me to green light an aggressive agenda to take on Republicans. Can you chip in $7 today?
See Michael’s email for more on what we’ve got planned.
Thanks,
Alex Lawson Executive Director Social Security Works

John,
Today is the last day of 2022, which means Social Security Works’s budget levels for the new year are going to be finalized. The numbers we hit today will let us know what kind of resources we will have to throw at the Republican House of Representatives when they come after Social Security in 2023.
In the past, we’ve run billboard trucks in the home districts of politicians who oppose seniors, whether it’s Ron Johnson or Marco Rubio. They are effective―but expensive!
Help fund billboard trucks targeting Kevin McCarthy, John Thune, or any other Republican who comes after our Social Security system. Donate $7 today to help us hit our goal!
Billboard trucks are particularly effective because they can go where people are. We’ve driven our messages right to senior centers, which leads to a volley of calls from the demographic that always votes right into a senator’s district office. Let me tell you, it scares the crap out of politicians.
Here’s the truth: Our fundraising is down a lot this year. We made the decision in the months ahead of the midterms to devote more of our efforts to electing candidates who will fight for Social Security and Medicare. After seeing the election results, we’re still confident that we made the right decision―but it does leave us with a bit of a gap in our budget in order to be effective against Republicans in Washington this year.
Can you help us close the gap and fight for Social Security in 2023?
Thanks,
Michael Phelan Social Security Works
