It’s New Year’s Eve, and I know you have plans, so I’ll make this quick.

On January 3, the 118th Congress will be sworn into office. Members of Congress will pledge to protect and defend the Constitution and faithfully discharge their duty to the American people.

We already know there are MAGA Republicans unable to honor this oath. Through words and actions, they are making it clear protecting and defending our democracy is not a priority.

And now, because Kevin McCarthy is sowing the wind and corruptly bargaining with these extremists to secure the speakership, congressional Republicans are about to reap the whirlwind.

Team, we’re heading into troubled times. Kevin McCarthy is an opportunist, not a leader. His speakership — if he gets there — will be a short and unqualified failure. 

But it will be the American people and our democracy paying the price. 

That’s why I’m asking you, as we close out 2022, to help us hit our end-of-year goal by 11:59 p.m. tonight.
