The Achievements In 2022
========================

Dear LULAC Familia and Friends,

This is the time of year when we pause to reflect on all the work we have done
together to help millions of Latinos across the United States and Puerto Rico,
one person and one community at a time.

LULAC is making history, thanks to you. Just look at a few of the achievements in
2022:

LULAC is the single largest Latino organization of funds raised from small and
significant donations to help the victims of the Uvalde elementary school
shooting [ [link removed] ] .
We will never forget our visits with the affected families and the joy of sharing
your love and caring for them. Also, we swore in the first LULAC Council in
Uvalde and placed LULAC Presidential Purple Hearts on the children, the first in
our history.

Equally heartwarming is to have LULAC be the organization that recently got that
call about refugee hostages rescued by the FBI in Ft. Worth, Texas [ [link removed] ] ,
and who needed our help. They had been held in horrible conditions, without
clothes, hungry, cold, and scared for days when they were found. Hilda Duarte,
our LULAC national chaplain, represented us all when she rushed to their aid,
providing clothing, food, and shelter. Today, they are with their families.

2022 also saw the celebration in San Juan, Puerto Rico, of the first LULAC
National Convention and Exposition [ [link removed] ]
since the pandemic outbreak. This event demonstrated that we are strongest when
we unite and reach out to touch Latinos everywhere. The months of planning and
perseverance paid off as members, along with our sponsors and community allies,
came together for a week of activities that showed the resilience of LULAC.

Our work also took LULAC into the halls of the Pentagon a few days ago when we
met with the U.S. Navy leadership. With us were gold star parents Teri and
Patrick Caserta. They have spearheaded the passage of the Brandon Act to help
save servicemembers’ lives [ [link removed] ] .
We will not stop until that federal law, and the Vanessa Guillen Act [ [link removed] ]
are implemented at all U.S. military bases worldwide. This is our pledge to our
communities and all Americans.

LULAC saw unprecedented growth in the Northwest, where we added Idaho, Nevada,
and Wyoming to our roster of states with directors on our national board. Also,
their entry enabled us to add a new national vice president to work with them in
carrying out the mission of LULAC in one of the fastest-growing Latino regions of
America. We welcome them and salute their hard work.

2022 will be when LULAC spoke truth to power in the statehouses, courtrooms, and
centers of policy decisions. We spoke out for voter rights, defended arriving
refugees, and battled for access to health care for women and services for our
seniors and veterans. More than ever, we generated a historic level of media
coverage thanks to your reputation as the warriors for the more than 62 million
Latinos in our country.

Now we look ahead to 2023, and even bigger news is coming! Stay engaged, and we
promise to inform you of the exciting changes. Enjoy the holiday season, and may
peace, joy, and celebration surround you and your loved ones. Elba, the family,
and I send you our warmest well-wishes.

¡Hasta La Victoria!

Domingo Garcia
LULAC National President
