It's time to call your Senator. [[link removed]]
Late last week the House of Representatives voted 224-194 [[link removed]] to prevent the president from stepping closer to war with Iran. Along with nearly all Democrats, three Republicans, including Trump stalwart Representative Matt Goetz (FL), supported the nonbinding measure.
Now it's the Senate's turn, and time is short. Senators could vote as early as Tuesday morning [[link removed]] , and it's critical that they take action before the House refers its articles of impeachment and shifts the focus back away from urgent questions of war and peace. If this Congress lets Trump instigate a new war, then they will have failed, regardless of the impeachment outcome.
To pass, the Senate resolution will need the support of all Democrats, plus four Republicans. That's not impossible, as last year's votes on U.S. support for the war in Yemen [[link removed]] show. Those four Republicans need only believe in the Constitution, which says that only Congress can declare war.
This is urgent: call your Senator [[link removed]] and tell them to support the resolution reasserting Congress' role in declaring war. This is the job we elected them to do. The world has endured 18 years of war. It's time we put a stop to it.
