John,
I want to thank you for all of your support this year. We have accomplished many great things for the American people over the last two years. We passed President Biden's American Rescue Plan, which safely reopened our schools, provided schools with the resources they need to address learning loss associated with the pandemic, accelerated the deployment of life saving vaccines, saved the private pension plans of approximately one million retirees, and reduced child poverty by nearly a half. We also enacted the landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is helping to rebuild our roads, bridges, ports and airports, and investing in our public transit and rail systems, as well as replacing lead pipes in our communities, and helping to clean up the Chesapeake Bay. These two legislative efforts alone have helped create millions of jobs over the last two years -- 10.5 million to be exact -- recovering all the jobs our economy lost as a result of the pandemic and producing the most jobs in the first two years of a presidential administration in the history of the United States.
President Biden and Democrats in Congress also worked to further reduce costs for families through the Inflation Reduction Act, which expands access to health care, caps insulin costs for seniors, allows Medicare to finally negotiate prescription drug prices, addresses climate change and lowers energy costs for American families. We also restored and accelerated American manufacturing with the passage of the CHIPS and Science Act, which will help fix supply chains that have increased costs, create new manufacturing jobs here in the United States, and invest in advanced research and development that puts our economy on firm footing for the future.
With a Republican Majority in the House taking office on January 3rd, all of the gains we've made will be under attack. But I thought it was important to take a moment to thank you for your past support that made those gains possible.
