Dear John,

This year, the war in Ukraine, along with other deadly conflicts, raised the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes around the world to a shocking 100 million. Despite this heart-breaking and unprecedented figure, your kindness and compassion has remained constant throughout these months of crises.

We needed your help more than ever in 2022, and you didn’t disappoint. Thanks to your support, just in the past few months ahead of winter we have:

Repaired and insulated homes damaged by shelling in Ukraine, where temperatures often drop below –20°C in December and January

Installed solar panels in Afghanistan, where many rural areas have no access to the electricity grid

Provided families in Syria with cash assistance to buy fuel and pay rent during the cold months

Distributed thousands of emergency supplies, from thermal blankets and warm clothes to solar lights, kitchen equipment and sanitary items to those displaced

Warmed the hearts of thousands of refugees and internally displaced families this winter

UNHCR was able to provide Nawal with winter cash assistance, enabling her to buy medicine, pay rent and fix the leaking house before winter arrives. Your support means everything to people like Nawal who are facing a winter far from home.

Looking forward to the new year, we know that 2023 will bring even more challenges. But UNHCR is always prepared, and with your support, we are determined to continue protecting refugees and displaced people any way we can.

Thank you.

P.S. As 2022 comes to an end, there is still time to do one last act of kindness this year by donating to support people who’ve been forced from their homes by conflict and violence. End 2022 on a high with a donation to UNHCR.
