Happy New Year (almost)!
Looking back on 2022, Democrats made major accomplishments for the American people, from passing the Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Bill to sending historic gun safety legislation to President Biden’s desk, to codifying same sex and interracial marriage, and so much more.
The crucial Violence of Women Act (VAWA) programs were funded at the highest level ever for these programs. Some other highlights of this bill that help children and families include: a bipartisan five-year reauthorization of the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program with increased levels of funding that will help Wisconsin and other states serve more families; Reforms that ensure children stay covered in CHIP and Medicaid for up to 12 months – even if their parents’ income changes; Makes the summer EBT program permanent, ensuring that families with children eligible for reduced or free school meals receive a $40 allowance each month, for each child reducing food insecurity.
Another vital program, especially during Wisconsin’s winter months is the Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which received a robust $5 billion in federal funding. So, let’s celebrate our victories and ring in the New Year!
