AEI stands out in Washington for our conviction that freedom, individual opportunity, limited government, and free markets are the hallmarks of the American Dream. We aim to protect that Dream, and we are proud of what we have accomplished this year. Some highlights include:
- Angela Rachidi and Paul Ryan’s recently coedited volume American Renewal: A Conservative Plan to Strengthen the Social Contract and Save the Country’s Finances is already influencing the policy debates, thanks to briefings with members of Congress and more than 50 congressional staffers, including key staff from the House Ways and Means Committee, a long-form interview for the ABC Sunday show This Week with Jon Karl, and features in several major news outlets, including the Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal.
- AEI launched the FREE Initiative this fall to establish a movement of leaders committed to reinvigorating the critical institutions—Family, Religion, Education, and Entrepreneurship (FREE)—that help develop agency in young people. More than 250 leaders convened for FREE Forums in Birmingham, AL and Chicago in the last two months to learn about the FREE framework. AEI will host additional FREE Forums with local leaders in 2023 to empower the rising generation with the guidance and support they need to succeed.
- In 2022, AEI scholars hosted more than 600 private meetings and briefings on Capitol Hill, at the Pentagon, and in state and federal agencies, and they have been asked to testify before Congress more than experts at any other think tank—24 times this year alone.
- Chris Miller’s Chip War: The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology won the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award and was named a New York Times bestseller. Chris provides a compelling decades-long history of the international competition to dominate microchip production and what it means for growing tensions between the US and China.
