John,
Here in Missouri-1, Lacy Clay, and his father before him, have held our seat in Congress for over half a century. Clay assures us that everything is fine, but meanwhile, people in my community are forced to make decisions every day that can mean the difference between making ends meet and living in poverty, hunger, or unhoused on our streets.
We face a tremendous lack of opportunity and year after year, our leadership has failed to address the underlying source of this disparity.
The graph below shows what I see every day: that race affects income inequality more than any other factor. While MO-1 has more black residents than any other race, our households make almost twice as less as white households, and our income rates are one of the lowest in the district.

How is this possible? Let me tell you:
- Our district is deeply segregated, which keeps the poor and disenfranchised far removed from the necessary resources they need to grow and thrive.
- Communities of color are underbanked and underinvested, which makes us subject to predatory lending and exploitation.
- There is a severe lack of federally funded entrepreneurship opportunities that allow black people to get a leg up in society.
Here’s how I’ll work to change this when elected:
- Initiate a Federal Public Impact Incubation and Acceleration System. Entrepreneurship is the backbone of our economy. From the neighborhood barbershop to the tech start up, Missouri’s 1st deserves the capital to invest in our communities.
- Creation of a federally backed Public Banking System to promote local community wealth. This can promote more local economic development by recapturing wealth from Wall Street back to Main Street.
- Work with local leaders to ensure every area of Missouri’s 1st, regardless of zip code, has access to quality education, healthcare, job opportunities, and a safe society to build families.
We’ve waited long enough for change that’s not coming. With your support, we can win back the seat for the people of MO-01 and start actually delivering on our promises.
Can you donate today?
In solidarity,
Cori
