December 31, 2022 Dear John, As 2022 draws to a close, I thank you on behalf of all of us at the Migration Policy Institute for your engagement and interest in our work. Our impact this year has been tangible. The Biden administration adopted a proposal developed by MPI Senior Fellow Doris Meissner to reform the way border asylum cases are adjudicated, making the process both more efficient and fairer. We have been a leading voice encouraging practical steps for cooperation in the hemisphere on migration at a time of especially high mobility throughout the Americas, and were pleased to see some of these ideas find their way into the Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection signed by the United States and 20 other countries. We have also been playing a key role in addressing complementary pathways to take pressure off overtaxed U.S. and European asylum systems and help the displaced find some stability and rebuild their lives. And with English Learner students facing the most significant learning losses during the pandemic, we are raising awareness of the importance of ensuring their equitable access to services in schools across the United States. In this highly polarized era, MPI remains deeply committed to being a resolutely nonpartisan, independent voice that works to generate well thought-out, sensible immigration and integration policies that work in the interest of all elements of society, immigrant and native born alike. As you make your final year-end giving decisions today, would you consider supporting us? |
