Friend,
We are facing not one, but two existential threats to our environment.
We all know about the climate crisis, but what about the biodiversity crisis?
Nearly 40 percent of all species on Earth may be threatened with or driven to extinction by the year 2100. Habitat destruction, overutilization of natural resources, and chemical pollution are wiping out species we’ve shared the earth with for millennia.
Earthjustice is fighting relentlessly against this crisis, and we need your help. If you’re able to donate online today, your gift will be matched $3:$1 to maximize your investment in a secure and healthy future on this planet. Please, make a year-end gift today.
No single creature better demonstrates the catastrophic impact of losing just one of the million at-risk species than the honey bee. Honey bees are critical to the U.S food supply. A third of our diet comes from crops that are pollinated by honey bees.
But when bees are exposed to pollen and nectar contaminated with systemic insecticides like neonicotinoids and sulfoxaflor, entire colonies can collapse. From April 2020 to April 2021, beekeepers in the U.S. reported losing 45.5% of their managed honey bee colonies. This is the second-highest annual loss on record.
Without pollinators like honey bees, we could lose more than 80% of plants worldwide and face a total collapse of global food networks.
But thanks to Earthjustice lawyers, honey bees have a fighting chance. We secured a vital win against bee-killing pesticides in California, with national implications — and we aren’t stopping there.
This is why the earth needs a good lawyer. We need the earth, the climate, and its millions of species intact. We rely on your persistent belief in a better future, and your donations to get there. Let’s continue fighting together.
