Calves are taken from their mothers and put into cramped crates. Newborn chicks will have their beaks SLICED OFF by horrific debeaking machines. Pregnant mother pigs are kept in metal cages, unable to move. This is only some of what mega meat corporations don’t want you to know about their factory-farming practices. Stand up to Big Meat corporations to stop the cruel factory farming industry and protect our planet: Make your tax-deductible year-end gift of $27 or more to Friends of the Earth and it will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $800,000 -- but only until midnight tomorrow!
From birth to slaughter, factory-farmed animals face filthy, cramped conditions, while generating massive amounts of waste that pollute local communities. And farm operators who manage some of these facilities are trapped in exploitative contracts while mega corporations like Smithfield and Tyson rake in massive profits.
We cannot continue allowing factory farming to inflict so much damage on animals, humans, and the planet. We need policies that will prevent mega meat corporations from abusing animals and destroying our only Earth.

Take a stand against factory farms, protect our planet, and donate $27 to Friends of the Earth today while you can make twice the impact.
Animals in factory farms face brutal conditions day in and day out. What’s more, cramming genetically similar animals in overcrowded, dirty, and stressful conditions makes the animals more susceptible to infection -- a dangerously perfect breeding ground for zoonotic diseases like swine flu and bird flu.
At the same time, factory farms produce over 885 billion pounds of methane-generating manure per year. When animal waste seeps into the soil and reaches nearby water sources, it can pollute drinking water, kill fish, and render nearby waterways unsafe. The antibiotics in this waste can also foster antibiotic-resistant bacteria that harm human health.
Factory farms also produce toxic pollutants that severely degrade the air and quality of life of the communities nearby -- many of which are communities of color and low-income communities. As a result, residents living near factory farms suffer from higher rates of respiratory diseases, headaches, gastrointestinal illnesses, and depression.
The entire business model of mega meat corporations is based on keeping their costs as low as possible through weak regulation and unsustainable practices that drive us closer to climate catastrophe. And our government allows them to keep lining their pockets rather than protect the health of people, animals, and our planet.
Big Meat is lining its pockets -- and the health of people, animals, and the planet is suffering. Help stop factory farming, protect our planet, and donate $27 today while this rare matching gift opportunity is still available.
Friends of the Earth is working for a healthy, equitable, and sustainable food system that supports a just transition away from factory farms and protects our planet, and your membership support can help power that work. We can’t allow Big Ag to continue to wreak havoc on animals and communities. Unless we challenge the hand-outs of public dollars and lax regulations that prop up factory farming, Big Meat corporations like Smithfield and Tyson will never change their practices.
Because of the large profit margins in factory farming, mega meat corporations continue to push the limits of the number of animals they can pack into fewer farms. Between 1960 and 2002, small farmers were driven out as the number of farms in the U.S. decreased by 50%. Meanwhile, the number of animals in these farms soared. In 2020, nearly 10 billion animals were slaughtered in the U.S. and most of them lived their entire lives in confinement.
Life in and around factory farms is unbearable for both people and animals. Until we rein in the power of Big Meat by changing policy and enacting stronger regulations, factory farms will continue to wreak havoc. We must step up our efforts quickly before the damage becomes too great to reverse. Make your tax-deductible gift of $27 or more before the clock strikes midnight tomorrow to help us reach our $800,000 year-end goal.
Mega meat corporations are harming animals, people, and the environment. Help us fight back for our planet by donating $27 today and it will be matched!
