On the 17th anniversary of the Dakota 38+2 ride and the 35th anniversary of the Dakota 38+2 run, Governor Walz and Lieutenant Governor Flanagan visited Mankato, which was?the site of the largest mass execution in U.S. history when 38 Dakota men were hung 160 years ago. Today,?it is a site of reconciliation and healing.

*"Today, we witnessed the powerful moment the Dakota 38+2 Riders rode through Mankato, completing their 330-mile journey through sub-zero whiteout conditions. Their sacrifice reminds us to recommit to accountability and healing for the Dakota people,"* said Governor Walz.

*"For 17 years the Dakota 38+2 riders have honored their ancestors and raised awareness of this painful chapter of the state?s history through this ride," *said Lieutenant Governor Flanagan. "*Today the descendants of those who were exiled and executed braved treacherous blizzard conditions to complete this 330-mile journey. We were honored to welcome them into Mankato and participate in the closing ceremony."?*

Governor Walz Marks Closure of Mall of America Vaccine Site, Recognizes Work of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm

Governor Walz visited the state vaccination site at the Mall of America to mark its final day. He thanked staff, encouraged Minnesotans to continue to get their vaccines, and recognized the work of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm as she retires.

Governor Walz Takes Action to Prevent Fraud, Protect Taxpayer Dollars

Governor Walz announced a new action plan to prevent fraud and improve oversight of federal grant dollars. Following his administration?s earlier directive to state agencies to identify areas of improvement, the Governor released a four-pronged plan [ [link removed] ] to?enhance enterprise-wide grant oversight and enforcement.
