We have the most corrupt, racist, and toxic president in the history of our country. He’s well-funded by a dizzying array of crooked lobbyists, corporations, and greedy billionaires intent on selling out everything we hold dear for a quick buck. And they’re supported by shameless politicians who rig the system further and further in their favor every day.

In other words: it’s zero hour for American democracy. That means it’s time to do everything in our power to rescue it from the clutches of toxic politicians, deep-pocketed special interests, racist vote suppressors, and the noxious influence of dark money. Corruption is poisoning the core of our country, and it’s now or never to root it out.

To change it, we need a political strategy that will counteract that poison.

And so we’re thrilled to introduce: HAZMAT America!

We are announcing our new brand to fight the toxic forces taking over our government, and empower everyday people.

Let us explain.

When MAYDAY was started, it was based on the idea that a cross-partisan movement could unite Democrats and Republicans in Congress to pass reform. Along with the hard work of our allies, we changed the conversation about democracy. We’re proud that we helped make money in politics a top issue in our national dialogue.

But Republicans have responded to the crisis by merely exploiting it for political power and greed. We saw the writing on the wall with Supreme Court decisions that opened the floodgates of corporate money and gutted the Voting Rights Act. Citizens United and Shelby were extreme decisions pushed through by right-wing judges supported by vast, completely unscrupulous big money networks. Since then, the Court has only become more extreme.

In response, new social movements have also risen up to fight back. And those movements aren’t partisan Democrats. From Black Lives Matter, to #MeToo, to climate strikes, to border protests, to pushing to reform the Democratic Party, and so much more, these movements are fighting to secure a real, lasting democracy for everyone.

Yet, time after time, Mitch McConnell and his Republican lackeys in the Senate block progress on any reform so they can deliver more tax cuts to their big donors. Republicans in Congress voted to give a $2 trillion payoff to their wealthy donors and corporations. Then, they doubled down against democracy when they opposed HR1, the biggest democracy reform bill in a generation. They are hazardous to voters, to real American values, and to democracy itself.

The stakes are clear. In order to fix our democracy, we must defeat Trump and the Republicans first.

But, that’s not all. We also have to supercharge movements to hold the Democrats accountable and make new voices heard.

That’s why we’re so excited about our new brand, HAZMAT America! Our brand embraces the idea that we must get rid of the toxic influences destroying our democracy, so we can rally for reform. That idea has been embodied in our Cleanup Carl campaigns. Now, we’re going all in, because too much is at stake to let corruption poison our system any more than it already has.

We’ll be unveiling big new campaigns that carry out that mission. But for now, we just wanted to explain this exciting new announcement.
