I am writing to you as a long-time supporter of the work of the ANSWER Coalition and urging you to make an urgently needed donation to help us sustain the antiwar and peace movement as we enter 2023. <[link removed]>



As you well know, we have entered a new era of global crisis. Major power conflict has become a priority for the Pentagon since 2018. The growing confrontation with China, endless and needless NATO expansion that proceeded Russia’s military intervention into Ukraine, and the rapidly escalating nature of that war — are all indicators that the new doctrine of “major Power Conflict” is designed to be a self-fulfilling prophesy. The stock portfolios of weapons manufacturers are soaring.



All the more reason we must strengthen the efforts of a movement that opposes militarism and all of its manifestations. Military spending in the 2023 federal discretionary budget is the largest single item.



On January 14, 2023 the ANSWER Coalition took the lead in a larger coalition building major antiwar demonstrations in New York City and San Francisco.



These are difficult times. But we believe that grassroots movements throughout history have created real and lasting change. We need to urgently educate and mobilize the people of this country to challenge the policies of a government that speaks in our name but not in our interest.
