John,
For the last decade, Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund has been fighting for a tax system and economy where the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share and so that we can also create an economy that works for all of us.
In a moment, I’m going to ask you to power our work in 2023 with an end-of-year donation. But first I want to share some big victories that you made possible this year:
-
Enacting President Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act, which will raise more than $500 billion in taxes from wealthy interests through a 15% minimum tax on billion-dollar corporations, a 1% tax on corporate stock buybacks, and beefing up IRS enforcement on rich tax cheats;
-
Blocking up to $600 billion in corporate tax giveaways in the year-end budget;
-
Building support for the Billionaire Minimum Income Tax, getting President Biden’s endorsement and 55 cosponsors in the U.S. House;
-
Documenting the huge and growing influence of billionaires buying elections;
-
Finally getting our hands on Trump’s tax returns!
This was only made possible because of your support and activism, together sending nearly 700,000 letters and petitions to Congress in 2022, fighting back against corporate and billionaire greed.
After our big victories this year, conservatives and wealthy special interests will look to roll back the progress we’ve made. And with a Republican-controlled House starting next week, we will need you by our side to continue to fight back and win!
Please make an end-of-year contribution to Americans for Tax Fairness Action Fund today to build on our 2022 victories and prepare for the fight ahead.
Republicans are already planning their anti-tax agenda for 2023. The ultra-conservative Americans for Tax Reform reports: GOP Leader McCarthy: First Bill Next Congress Will Cut IRS Budget.[1]
And Politico reports:[2]
“Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said Friday that a bill to roll back the $80 billion in funding that Democrats just gave the IRS would be Republicans’ first order of business if they take back the House.”
But it’s not just IRS funding that’s under threat. Republicans want to double down on their Trump-GOP tax cuts. According to the Washington Post: GOP wants to push to extend Trump tax cuts after midterm elections.[3]
And, Republicans plan to put Democrats on defense on our earned benefits. Just look at this Washington Post op-ed headline: Republicans are coming after Social Security. Democrats, take note.[4]
Your end-of-year donation will help prepare for the fight ahead, defending the progress we’ve made in holding the rich and corporations accountable while also protecting our earned benefits against cuts. Donate today!
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
Thank you for being by our side as, together, we fight for a tax system and economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
