$19.
That’s the average donation that’s made to support our work. And while $19 doesn’t seem like it could change the trajectory of our country, it has. Because by the time you donate $19, someone else has done the same, and it can add up very quickly!
We’ve gone toe-to-toe with the NRA, the largest GOP Super PACs, Big Oil & Gas, and WON!
This year, just as we did in 2018, we were able to elect a HISTORIC wave of Democrats with backgrounds in STEM at all levels of government.
We’re the only organization in the nation working to elect Democratic scientists to office – That includes recruiting, training, building their campaigns, and supporting their fundraising and voter turnout efforts. And unlike most organizations, we invest in candidates at ALL levels of government, from the Senate to your local school board.
In a moment, we’d love to go into more detail about how we’ve been able to beat the odds time and time again. But before we do, could we count on you to match our average donation of $19 before our FINAL FEC deadline of the year? We still need to raise $50,000 before year’s end.
In the aftermath of Donald Trump’s election and assault on science and scientific institutions, we marched in the largest pro-science demonstrations in world history + saw an unprecedented flood of support for our mission to elect scientists to office who would fight back.
At the time there wasn’t a single climate expert or woman physician in Congress.

Sean Casten and Dr. Kim Schrier were first-time candidates running in safe Republican districts. Sean’s district hadn’t backed a Democrat for Congress since the Nixon era and Kim’s district had never backed a Democrat in its history.
We weren’t deterred. In fact, Kim attended one of our first candidate trainings and we were proud to go all-in to reach hundreds of thousands of voters for them both, including other first-time candidates running for Congress like ocean engineer Joe Cunningham, nuclear engineer Elaine Luria, and nurse Lauren Underwood (all of who were running in races seen as Lean or Likely Republican).
Many election experts predicted Joe, Elaine, and Kim would lose.
Instead, all of them won their races, we flipped the House, and we elected more scientists to office than at any point in history.

The next year we organized a campaign to draft astronaut Mark Kelly to run for Senate and became the first organization to endorse him in his bid for a Senate seat that had been held by Republicans since 1962.
We invested millions into Arizona to boost Mark in this must-win race and to support geologist John Hickennlooper in his must-win race to flip Colorado’s Senate seat blue. We did the same when Senate control would be decided in Georgia to help push Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff into the lead after narrowly forcing their races into a runoff.
All of them won and as a result we won the Senate.

Our investments don’t stop at the Federal level: We worked closely with Gov. Tony Evers (former science teacher) and Sara Rodriguez (epidemiologist who was the Lt. Gov. nominee on the ticket) and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist (computer scientist) to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars into keeping Wisconsin + Michigan blue.
And at the state legislative level, we’ve invested more than most organizations in supporting hundreds of Democratic scientists at the state and local level, which helped Democrats flip several state legislative chambers from Minnesota to Michigan because we know how critical it is to invest locally.
Oftentimes, we’ll be the only organization on the ground when a Democratic scientist is exploring a run for office or announces they will be running.
Many wait until the primaries are over or until the candidate can prove they can raise millions of dollars. We’re proud to stand side by side with our candidates, whether for Governor, House, Senate, state legislature, or school board, to be there from Day 1 through to Election Day.
Those average donations of $19 are what allow us to be there and to power these historic victories, even when election experts say we don’t have a chance or even when our candidates are being outspent 3:1. Because we know we can beat the odds and we know our candidates can make history.
That’s why we’re asking if you’ll pitch in just one more time this year and match our average donation of $19 toward our final FEC deadline of the election cycle.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will be immediately processed.
Thank you for all that you do,
