Support our year-end efforts.
John,
Earlier this year, you helped make America a more welcoming place for those fleeing violence and persecution.
Thanks in part to your advocacy, the Biden administration launched Uniting for Ukraine, an effort which relies on private sponsorship to welcome more than 100,000 Ukrainians and others escaping Russian
aggression. This, along with Temporary Protected Status for Vulnerable Ukrainians already in the U.S., means that tens of thousands of Ukrainians have been able to temporarily seek refuge here and won’t have to put their lives at risk by being forced to go back to a country at war.
Support the Forum’s advocacy work on behalf of vulnerable families fleeing aggression. Will you make a year-end gift today?
The efforts to help Ukrainians followed the 2021 evacuation of tens of thousands of vulnerable Afghans fleeing the Taliban, including thousands of Afghan allies who
worked with U.S. forces. While Congress granted these evacuees with refugee benefits and the Biden administration provided them with the temporary ability to reside in the U.S. and receive work authorization, they need a permanent solution in the form of the Afghan Adjustment Act, which would provide them a pathway to lawful permanent residence and eventual citizenship.
But we need your help advancing our advocacy work on behalf of our Afghan allies in the U.S. Will you consider making a year-end gift today to help move legislation like the Afghan Adjustment Act forward and help us reach our
$50,000 goal?
Unless Congress acts, evacuated Afghans have limited options. Seeking asylum or obtaining Special Immigrant Visas both potentially could help some Afghans obtain permanent status, but both processes are heavily backlogged and unavailable to many who may not qualify, Congress must act to resolve the long-term status of Afghan evacuees and provide them a permanent solution. Without it, they face uncertainty, including lengthy waits for asylum, and potentially even being forced into undocumented status.
Our Afghan allies can’t continue to live in a state of limbo – they need a pathway to permanent resident status.
I hope you will consider supporting our policy efforts to help individuals like our Afghan allies. Make a gift today!
Thank you for your support,
Laurence Benenson Vice President of Policy & Advocacy National Immigration Forum
