Please, take a moment from your day to meet Rosbella, a community health volunteer in Kaloboru, Kenya who has worked for decades providing health education and vital services for her neighbors.

Mercy Corps has partnered with local leaders and experts like Rosbella, to uncover and address the root causes of acute malnutrition in the region, and to support the Kaloboru clinic’s lifesaving work.

Rosbella is motivated by her belief that all mothers should be able to make sure their children are healthy. But after two years with insufficient rain, access to food in the region has become even more challenging — and Rosbella, along with Mercy Corps team members around the globe, are counting on your generosity to help them respond.

"There are no crops planted when the famine is destroying the land. The main challenge is inadequate food, at times these families rely on selling firewood, they buy maize with the money they get, and a small and malnourished child cannot be fed fully on maize. The drought and famine have escalated the situation, sometimes they sleep hungry when their firewood is not sold that day."

– ROSBELLA, COMMUNITY HEALTH VOLUNTEER, KENYA

This sort of struggle is happening not just in Kenya, but across the Horn of Africa and in communities worldwide.

Rosbella is one of thousands of Mercy Corps volunteers, partners, and team members devoting their time and energy to supporting these communities every single day.

Together, we’re united against poverty, drought, and inaction — and your generous gift today will help accelerate this work in the year ahead. A group of generous donors has already given $400,000 to encourage our community of givers to make a matching gift, so your gift today can help us go twice as far for families in need.

With just one day remaining in 2022, please make your tax-deductible gift to help turn challenge into change for so many families across the globe.

Rosbella (left) listens to Elizabeth (right, holding her daughter) during their health check-up.
Earlier this year, Rosbella met with Elizabeth, a 35-year-old mother of seven children. Elizabeth lives with her family in Turkana, an area in northwestern Kenya that has been experiencing severe drought. For income, Elizabeth and her husband collect firewood to sell at local markets, but they are still not able to generate enough income to support their family.
Elizabeth’s one-year-old daughter received critical care for malnutrition, plus malaria medication, supplementary food, and regular check-ups at a Mercy Corps-supported clinic nearby.
As a mother, Rosbella says she feels a special connection to the mothers with whom she works. Having grown up in this region of Kenya, she believes she is uniquely positioned to support local mothers with care and respect.

Between crisis and recovery, Rosbella and members of the global Mercy Corps team are helping to build healthier communities for millions of families like Elizabeth’s.

Will you strengthen this essential work with a tax-deductible matching gift right now?

Thank you for your generosity during this season of giving.

Sincerely,
