A special message from Pat Feeley, Chief Development Officer

Dear Friend,

Thanks to you, we advanced our mission in 2022 for all people with cystic fibrosis. While I could talk at length about the many accomplishments we achieved together this year, there is perhaps no stronger evidence that your support matters than the fact that people with CF are living longer lives than at any other moment in history. For the first time, the median predicted life expectancy for a child born with CF today has reached 53 years, up 15 years from just a decade ago.

With your continued commitment, we expect that number to climb, as the world’s leading CF scientists drive innovative research forward, using the very best tools and technologies available. Genetic-based therapies in particular hold great promise, as these will help anyone with CF, regardless of their CFTR mutations. They are more complex than anything we have ever done, requiring a substantial investment. Progressing a genetic therapy could cost the Foundation 10 times more than the development of a novel therapy a decade ago. The exciting news is — we are already making serious strides in this area — with five genetic therapies in clinical trials or upcoming in 2023. This includes three promising mRNA therapies.

Fueling this momentum is donor support. Our Milestones III: Driven by a Dream giving campaign, which formally launched this summer, has already resulted in nearly $115 million thanks to Chair, Joe O’Donnell and many others involved in the campaign.

We are grateful to all of our donors because the simple truth is, every gift we receive, no matter how large or small, makes a difference.

It is through the support of donors like you that we will garner the resources needed to cross the finish line while also ensuring that specialized care will be available for a generation afterward.
So, if you have not made a gift yet this year, please consider doing so ([link removed]). I know how much it will mean to families across the country who are counting on us to help their loved ones bravely face another day with CF, and ring in a new year — with hope.

Best wishes for a safe and happy holiday season.

With gratitude,

Patrick J. Feeley

Chief Development Officer
