Dear John,

Three years ago, we revealed these graphic images from an immigration detention facility in Tucson, Arizona run by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The images show traumatized asylum seekers and mothers with infants and small children being held in cold, overcrowded, and dirty cells.

One image even captured a mother changing an infant’s diaper on a trash-strewn concrete floor.

We sued to end this inhumane treatment, and today the case goes to trial. We’ll demand a judge implement a permanent injunction to end the appalling practices in CBP’s Tucson Sector.

These conditions should not exist in a facility operated by the U.S. government. It’s more important than ever that CBP be held accountable.

Time and again the agency has failed to uphold constitutional standards in detention. Our legal action could stop this systemic problem in the Tucson Sector.

Sincerely,

Beth Werlin
Executive Director
