In Montgomery County, MD, school officials decided to bring armed police officers back into their schools. We stood with Young People for Progress and MoCo Students Against Brutality, as well as Racial Justice Now! to sound the alarm on the threat to Black students in the district.

In Uvalde, TX, a mass shooting killed 19 students and two teachers in an elementary school, leading to calls for more police in schools. We stood with Texas Appleseed, the Alliance for Educational Justice, and other local partners to remind the public that increasing the presence of police, guns, and other militarized approaches in schools only pours gasoline on the fire.

In Denver, CO, officials proposed closing schools that serve a predominately Black or Latinx student body. We worked with Moviemento Poder to demand a vote against discriminatory and harmful school closures during this ongoing pandemic.

Every day, we are proud to fight alongside our partners and students across the nation to advance education justice. With new efforts to criminalize students and keep Black and Brown youth under surveillance coming our way, we need to be ready to keep fighting back.

Please make a holiday gift to Advancement Project to help us continue the fight in 2023 to make education for ALL students possible. [[link removed]]

Advancement Project’s education justice program, Opportunity to Learn, envisions a future in which students of color have the self-determination to achieve the liberatory school of their dreams.

That means schools free from police, violence, and discrimination. It means reimagining schools to be places of safety and opportunity where students of color can grow into the leaders of tomorrow.

Help us continue to advance a bold vision for education justice in 2023 and beyond: make a tax deductible donation to Advancement Project to help us continue fighting for students. [[link removed]]
