Dear administrators, correspondents, volunteers, donors and supporters,
Dear team members,
Thanks to you, 2022 has been a year of unprecedented effectiveness and major successes for RSF. Our ability to take action, our work intensity, our response speed and our inventiveness have been up to the challenges and dramatic events around the world. We have mobilised wherever journalists and the freedom to report the facts have been in danger. I thank you very sincerely.
In Ukraine, our two press freedom centres provide protective equipment, first aid kits, digital safety training and psychological support to local and international journalists covering the war.
In Iran, RSF has launched a support service for journalists and media to provide them with IT tools that enable them to disseminate their reporting while protecting their anonymity online.
In Afghanistan, where the Taliban regime is getting harsher by the day, we have helped more than 200 threatened journalists to leave the country.
As a result of our efforts at the international level, 50 countries have now signed up to the Partnership for Information and Democracy that we initiated, while we have been developing systemic solutions for the right to news and information online.
As 2022 draws to an end, news developments are more than ever demonstrating the vital importance of journalism in combatting massive disinformation and propaganda, while the fact that nearly 1,700 journalists and media workers have been killed worldwide in the past 20 years shows that we must continue our fight more than ever.
We will have much to do in 2023, but we are exceptionally fortunate in being able to tell ourselves every morning that our day will be useful. Together, let's step up our commitment to journalists who defy threats and persecution to carry out their duty to report the facts. To achieve this, I know I can count on you.
Once again, thank you very much for your support. I wish you very happy holidays and an excellent 2023.
