Dear Friend,  On behalf of the Progressive Maryland family, I'm writing to wish you a very happy and healthy New Year 🎆. Â
This has been a year of ups and downs. We experienced a tough loss with the passing of our beloved board member, Gabriela Sevilla, this fall. Remembering and honoring her fierce advocacy and social justice work kept us going, and we turned to our community with gratitude and love to remain strong through the end of the year. Â
As we close out 2022, I wanted to take the time to remind you how valuable you are, Friend, to our organization. Thank you for reading our emails, joining the conversation, and taking action in any way you could — you’ve helped make this year a good one. We’ve been able to accomplish so much, here are some of our major highlights from the year:
 -
We celebrated some huge wins in the 2022 Maryland General Assembly legislative session, including having passed Paid Family and Medical Leave, which supports thousands of Maryland workers in getting the time off they need to care for loved ones without the cost of sacrificing a paycheck, and the Climate Solutions Now Act, the plan for adequately addressing climate change and reducing statewide greenhouse gas emissions.
-
We endorsed numerous progressive candidates and had sweeping victories throughout the state this 2022 Gubernatorial Election, like with our new Governor and Lt. Governor-Elect, Attorney General-Elect, Comptroller-Elect; and many strong Senate, House of Delegates, and local leaders we are proud to support.
-
We successfully legalized cannabis for adult use and are now advocating for the equitable implementation of the amendment.
- Our team grew! We’ve expanded our team in order to reflect our outreach. We are looking forward to some more staff hires in the New Year to further increase our base building efforts and strengthen our campaign task forces.Â

With a robust legislative agenda, 2023 is going to be even bigger and better. With our newly elected Governor, Wes Moore, and a slew of more diverse, progressive candidates in office, we have much on our list we are eager to accomplish in order to hold these elected officials accountable and fulfill our mission of a better Maryland where all working families can thrive.Â
From our team to yours, we wish you peace and prosperity this New Year. Thank you for a wonderful year and we are looking forward to working with you in 2023. Â
With Gratitude, Larry Stafford, Jr. Executive Director of Progressive Maryland |
