You may not have noticed, John, but during the 2022 midterm elections, far-right groups quietly funneled cash into races that hardly ever get any news coverage: races for state supreme court seats.

These races used to be relatively low-profile and nonpartisan. But now, the GOP is changing that by spending millions to prop up openly right-wing judicial candidates. Their next target is Wisconsin, where an upcoming race in early 2023 could reshape the majority on the state’s highest court – and the future of a number of vital issues in the state.

We know we can expect conservative groups to spend big money to elect judges who they believe will rubber-stamp their far-right agenda. Can we count on you to pitch in to support the NDRC’s efforts to fight back against far-right groups across the country?

John, we cannot afford to ignore this Wisconsin Supreme Court race. The outcome will have huge consequences for issues like:

Whether Wisconsin conservatives will be allowed to enforce an abortion ban that was passed before the Civil War.
Whether the court will uphold maps that are so gerrymandered, Republicans nearly won supermajorities in both chambers in the legislature – despite Democrats winning the statewide vote for governor!
And, crucially, whether Republican lawmakers can ignore the will of Wisconsin voters by overturning the state’s presidential election results in 2024.
Simply put, democracy is on the line in Wisconsin. That’s why it is vital that Wisconsin elect a fair-minded justice who will defend both bodily autonomy and the future of our elections.
