Covid Outbreak: China Continues to Keep Us in the Dark
AP News: Moves by several countries to mandate COVID-19 tests for passengers arriving from China reflect global concern that new variants could emerge in its ongoing explosive outbreak — and that the government may not inform the rest of the world quickly enough. There have been no reports of new variants to date, but China has been accused of not being forthcoming about the virus since it first surfaced in the country in late 2019. The worry is that it may not be sharing data now on any signs of evolving strains that could spark fresh outbreaks elsewhere. Research into the origins of the virus has also been stymied. A WHO expert group said in a report this year that “key pieces of data” were missing on the how the pandemic began and called for a more in-depth investigation ( AP News).

A League of They/Them Own: Boxing Organization Introduces Transgender Category for 2023
New York Post: The World Boxing Council (WBC) is starting separate categories dedicated to transgender fighters to ensure competitors’ “safety,” officials announced Thursday. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told The Telegraph in an interview published Thursday that the new divisions next year are to ensure that “the dangers of a man fighting a woman will never happen.” “We will not allow — ever — a transgender born a man to fight a woman, who was born a woman,” he stated firmly. Instead, transgender fighters will be organized by an “at birth” rule, meaning a trans female fighter born a man can only box against a fellow trans fighter born a man, and the same for those born a woman ( New York Post). Daily Mail: The concept of transgender athletes competing in sport has been thrown into the spotlight in recent years, with swimming, weightlifting, cycling and rugby union among the sports affected by the debate. As boxing is a contact sport, the WBC were keen to get on top of the issue and propose an appropriate plan of action to ensure that all health and safety concerns were considered ( Daily Mail).

Americans’ Work Ethic Destroyed by Socialism, Says Home Depot Co-founder
New York Post: The 93-year-old billionaire co-founder of Home Depot blamed “socialism” for Americans lacking the motivation to work and warned that the future of capitalism is in danger. Bernie Marcus told Financial Times on Thursday, “Nobody works.” “Just give it to me. Send me money. I don’t want to work — I’m too lazy, I’m too fat, I’m too stupid,” Marcus said about what he perceived as the attitude permeating the country. “Nobody gives a damn.” The longtime Republican backer ticked down a list of people he blamed for standing in the way of private enterprise, including President Biden, “the woke people,” the news media, Harvard graduates, MBAs, lawyers and accountants ( New York Post). Daily Caller: Marcus previously spoke out against socialism in 2019 when asked about Bernie Sanders and his left-wing proposals, such as socialized medicine. “He is the enemy of every entrepreneur that’s ever going to be born in this country and has been born in the past,” he said of Sanders and his propositions. Marcus’ business partner Ken Langone seconded his stance, stating, “[Socialism] doesn’t work. It never works” ( Daily Caller).

LA’s Elite Intimidated by Skid Row Homeless When Charging EVs
Daily Mail: A conservative commentator has warned electric vehicle drivers in LA the charging stations for their $60,000 cars are littered with homeless encampments. Alexandra Datig shared a video of her driving in downtown on Wednesday, with one of the local Blink EV charging stations surrounded by trash and tents. ‘When you live in Los Angeles, it’s better to have a charging station at home for that $60,000 EV,’ Datig wrote. The closer you get to downtown, the charging stations have homeless ‘attendants’ who live on the same sidewalk as the stations.’ California as a whole had 563,070 registered EVs in 2021, more than 100,000 more compared to the year before. But the work in LA could be undermined by the ongoing homeless crisis affecting the public charging stations ( Daily Mail). Alexandra Datig: I’m just now driving down the street passing the charging station that is five minutes from my house on the outskirts of downtown LA. Would you be comfortable charging your $60,000 EV here? ( Twitter).

‘White Supremacy’ Runs Deep When It Comes to Physical Fitness, Professor Says
The Blaze: Time.com published a bizarre Q&A recently, exploring an author’s unorthodox attacks on the origins of physical fitness and exercise. The article, titled “The White Supremacist Origins of Exercise, and 6 Other Surprising Facts About the History of U.S. Physical Fitness,” provides an uncited attempt to describe sinister origins behind everything from President Kennedy’s fitness campaign to simple running. Author Natalia Mehlman Petrzela wrote, “Fit Nation,” a book that states in its synopsis that “fitness is a social justice issue” ( The Blaze). TIME: The “running is for everybody” discourse still quite often leaves out the fact that depending on where you live and the body that you live in, it can be a very different kind of experience ( TIME). Outkick: The outlet contends the activity is deeply rooted in white supremacy. The Babylon Bee did not produce an article examining the white supremacist origins of exercising. Rather, the article is the product of one of the longest-standing magazines in the country ( Outkick). Hodgetwins: Paging. @TheBabylonBee, they are stealing your content ( Twitter).
