A key aspect of good journalism is that the work speaks for itself. It draws people in because it’s good; it makes waves because it matters. The Prospect taught me that I could nurture my own point of view and see my rare perspective as a strength, showing me that I can do good work because of my identity, not in spite of it.
I can be all the things I am without remorse; I can see the world through my Black feminine lens and let that expand the possibilities of seeing the world through every other perspective. When I don’t have to stifle who I am, I do my best work.
When journalism nurtures young writers genuinely and lets those who have been excluded speak for themselves, the work does the same in turn. A donation to the Prospect helps us continue doing journalism that means something — to the country, to our staff, but most essentially, to our readers.
