Rodolfo’s story demonstrates the urgent need for MSF’s care

Rodolfo had been sleeping at the bus station for days when Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff first met him.
After a harrowing month-long journey that took him through the Darién Gap—a dense jungle on the border between Colombia and Panama once described to us as a “nightmare with 1,001 demons''—and across several borders, Rodolfo, a Venezuelan migrant, thought his journey was finally over when he reached the US border.
That dream would soon be shattered by Title 42, a pandemic-era policy that has expelled more than two million people seeking asylum in the United States in just three years. While a federal judge recently ruled to strike down this policy, migrants like Rodolfo still face tremendous barriers to seeking safety and accessing essential medical care.
Rodolfo is one of over six million Venezuelan migrants who have fled their country in recent years due to political and economic upheaval, many of whom have endured extreme hardships and suffering in an effort to seek asylum in the United States.
MSF has been responding to health and humanitarian needs along the US-Mexico border in towns like Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, and Piedras Negras, where many migrants and asylum seekers are stranded after being expelled from the United States. (You can support this work right now with a matched gift, Friend.)
Migrants in border towns and elsewhere in Mexico are living in extremely difficult conditions. MSF staff have witnessed migrant people struggling to access food, water, sanitation, and medical and psychological care.
Migrant families are relying on MSF and our generous supporters to meet their immediate needs after they’ve endured unimaginable trauma. We need your help now to prepare us to meet the needs of our patients in Mexico and around the world.
