I'm writing to you from Eastern Europe, where we're in the middle of the coldest time of the year. Temperatures can stay below freezing for days on end, snow can pile into mountainous drifts, and icy winds can cut right through the walls of damaged homes and shelters.

As winter conditions worsen, the conflict inside Ukraine continues. And many people are spending these brutal nights without warm blankets or winter coats, and with no way to heat their homes. But John, your support can make all the difference.

John, fuel shortages mean that blackouts have become a daily reality, and civilians will be unable to heat their homes during long winter nights. Hospitals do not have the medications they need to treat patients amidst winter threats like pneumonia hypothermia.

That's why the IRC is urgently scaling up our response to the harsh winter that's just set in, when so many families have been cut off from access to food, water or electricity, and the renewed wave of violence across the country has left key civilian infrastructure in rubble.
