A fair and inclusive democracy requires us to ensure that every American has the right to vote without needless restrictions.
Friend,
The 2022 election showed us that young people are now voting in record numbers. Issues like climate change and gun control are driving people under 30 to the polls, and Millennials and Gen Z are expected to make up 40 percent of the electorate in 2024.
But young people are also facing critical barriers to their right to vote. For years now, Republicans have actively worked to undermine voting rights nationwide. They’ve closed polling stations, created unreasonable hurdles for voter registration, rejected ballots for arcane rule violations, and removed hundreds of thousands of people in voter purges.
That’s why I support Rep. Nikema Williams’ and Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s Youth Voting Rights Act, a landmark bill that would put power behind the 26th Amendment to ensure free and equal voting access for all.
Sign the petition: Pass the Youth Voting Rights Act.
If enacted the Youth Voting Rights Act would expand voter registration at colleges and universities and allow voter pre-registration nationally. It would mandate on-campus polling locations and allow student IDs to be used for voter identification. It would even create a grant program for states to promote youth involvement in elections, as well as improve civic education and engagement.
A fair and inclusive democracy requires us to ensure that every American has the right to vote without needless restrictions. That’s why we need to take action and give young voters the resources they need to engage in the electoral process.
