Friend,
New York City hasn’t seen homelessness this high since the Great Depression. Earlier this year we learned that over 104,000 students in the NYC public school system do not have a home. With many parents struggling to keep up with skyrocketing rent increases, that number is only going up. We can’t have safe and healthy communities when record numbers of New Yorkers are losing their homes.
Building by building, NYCC builds tenant power. We organize tenant associations. We educate tenants on the programs available to them and stand with them as they fight for their rights. By connecting these leaders with others across the state, we build a movement of folks that can change New York.
This critical work is painstaking and underfunded. Can you make a contribution to support this important work?
Evictions damage communities and families. Studies show that in the 2 years following an eviction, people were more likely to visit the emergency room for a mental health condition than those who were not evicted.
In 2023, we’re fighting to pass a package of common sense legislation to stop unnecessary evictions. We need laws that keep families in their homes and build new housing that puts safe, stable communities ahead of profits.
But we need your help. Rising costs are impacting every aspect of our work and Real Estate is spending millions against us. Can you make an end-of-year contribution to help us keep up?
The work that we’ve done has protected millions of tenants. In 2018 we passed the strongest package of rent protections in decades. During the pandemic, we made sure that New York's ban on evictions was the longest-running in the country. And we won billions of dollars in rental assistance for families who lost income due to COVID-19.
With your support, we can keep fighting, keep winning and keep building the safe and healthy communities we deserve. Click here to make your contribution today.
Best,
