John, In a perilous time for our democracy, we are very grateful for your valued support to defend our republic for we, the people. Free Speech For People spent this past year fighting against the most pressing threats facing our democracy through our pathbreaking legal and grassroots organizing strategies. Our pioneering actions have yielded transformative change in the courts, in our communities, and in the movement to protect our democracy. But we could not have done this without you, and we have so much work still to do in 2023 in the fight for our republic. Will you donate to Free Speech For People today to help us defend the Constitution and reclaim our democracy? We continue to lead the way in addressing some of the greatest challenges facing our democracy today: - The 14point3 campaign: We launched a groundbreaking campaign to uphold the mandate of Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment and bar insurrectionists from the ballot for their participation in the January 6th insurrection. We will continue this campaign in 2023, with a particular focus on ensuring that Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment is enforced against Donald Trump, the insurrectionist-in-chief.
- Advancing critical campaign finance reforms: Our model legislation to end foreign corporate spending in our elections has been introduced by Congressman Jamie Raskin in the U.S. House of Representatives with 35 co-sponsors and advanced in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts, and New York. Additionally, Free Speech For People and Equal Citizens, on behalf of individual Massachusetts voters, filed two lawsuits in the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court which could ultimately lead to an end to super PAC spending in the state and could set a vital precedent for ending super PACs nationwide.
- Protecting free and fair voting for all: We filed a federal lawsuit against the United States Election Integrity Plan, an extremist organization with ties to QAnon, seeking to stop USEIP’s illegal voter intimidation campaign in Colorado often targeting high-density housing areas and communities experiencing growth among voters of color. We have won key rulings in this case. We’ve also filed lawsuits in Texas and Arizona to challenge new restrictive state voting laws intended to suppress the rights of voters of color following large voter turnout in the November 2020 election.
- Holding social media companies accountable: We advanced our model legislation, the Big Tech Accountability Act, to hold social media companies accountable when they amplify disinformation and threats of violence on their platforms. And, we filed an amicus brief in the US Supreme Court in support of the petitioners in Gonzalez v. Google, seeking to hold Google accountable for its role in amplifying threats of violence on its platform YouTube.
