John, did you see what President Obama said about our fight for fair maps?
President Obama is absolutely right.
Back in 2018, our affiliate supported the creation of Michigan’s independent redistricting commission. That commission approved what The New York Times called “one of the fairest” maps in the country in 2021 – and, in 2022, Democrats took full control of Michigan state government for the first time in 40 years!
Now, Republicans are panicking. They know if we pass fair redistricting reforms in more states, their days of unearned power are limited. That’s why the GOP is scrambling to make it harder to pass the kind of ballot initiatives that secured fair maps in Michigan – and it’s up to us to stop them.
As President Obama said, “Our opposition is counting on the NDRC to lose the energy and drive that our movement has sustained so far. We simply cannot afford to do that.”
