Hi John,

My friend Rep. Lucy McBath and I have quite a bit in common. We both decided in 2018 that we were not going to “wait for our turn” to run for Congress.

In 2018, we became two of the 23 Black women who served in the 116th Congress. Four years later, heading into 2023, that number will be 27 in the House, and 0 in the Senate.

Representation matters, John. Lucy and I are proud and honored to serve in Congress and lead the way for Black girls from Massachusetts to Georgia who want to get involved in public service someday.

Lucy and I are both also proud to have built our campaigns with the help of grassroots donors. Over the past four years, thousands of you have shown us that you – the people — believe in what we’re fighting for: $10, $50, and $100 at a time.

Working together with Lucy in Washington over the last four years has been such a pleasure. Lucy has been unshakeable in her advocacy on issues where our constituents need our help – on gun violence, women’s rights, environmental justice, immigration, and so much more.
