A case of wrong place, wrong time almost cost Medellin* her future. 

Her father witnessed a murder on his way home from work, and her mother received a threat the next day: “Your husband is a dead man.”  

Just like that, Medellin’s family had to flee Guatemala, with no time to mourn the life they’d left behind. When they finally reached Mexico, her father’s visa didn’t clear — and instead of finding safety, they were separated. 

Eventually, they all crossed the border to a brighter future. But it took days of begging for immigration officials to reunite them. 

I’m fed up with the unjust immigration system, but your support today will help us fight for a better one — and other ways to get children the support they need. 

Friend, I wanted to share Medellin’s story because it has a happy ending. We need more of those.  

But other asylum seekers aren’t so lucky. Countless children and families are forced to return to their home countries, where violence, inequality and uncertain futures await.
