Dear John,

AS WE LOOK BACK AT THE PAST YEAR AND USHER IN 2023, WE CELEBRATE CJA’S
MEMBERS AND ALL ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE COMMUNITIES AND ALLIES WHO ARE ON THE
FRONTLINES, FIGHTING THE BAD AND BUILDING THE NEW.

Most recently, our movement not once, or twice, but three times beat back
attacks to strip our communities of their most basic rights to protect
their families and neighborhoods from toxic and polluting industries by
defeating Senator Manchin’s dirty deal. THIS WAS AN ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE
VICTORY!

Thanks to their tireless organizing, coordinated actions with allies, and
round the clock work with legislators, we were able to stop the dirty side
deal that would have gutted bedrock protections under the National
Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), which ensures a pathway for community
input and recourse against dirty industry.

Read our most recent statement [4] to learn more and hear what frontline
communities are saying. As we celebrate the new year we applaud CJA members
and all those who organized throughout the year to oppose Senator
Manchin’s dirty deal. THANK YOU!

WE ALSO INVITE YOU TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE INSPIRING WORK CJA MEMBERS ARE
ENGAGED IN BY TUNING INTO SEASON 2 OF OUR PODCAST STREAMING NOW [5],
FEATURING ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE LEADERS AND COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE
COUNTRY.

Season 2 of _STORIES FROM HOME: Moving the Just Transition_, grounds us in
the history of environmental justice, climate justice organizing and
present day Just Transitions. Each episode deep dives into different
dimensions of the movement – from the importance of community-led
solutions to the climate crisis, to just what is a false “solution”
anyway, to energy democracy and how we relate to one another in just
relationship– with our host Keenan Rhodes, and the climate justice
leaders who serve as our guides and teachers.
