Could the economy and stock market have performed any WORSE than these past 12 months? You'd have to go back to 2008 to see bigger losses.
Americans lost an estimated $13.5 trillion in their net household wealth after adjusting for inflation. The chart below shows the nominal and real returns on the three major stock indices and the return on bonds.
Nominal Real
Nasdaq -33% -38%
S&P -20% -25%
Dow -9% -15%
Bonds -12%
Wait. We thought all these trillions of dollars of government spending were supposed to STIMULATE the economy.
2) House Members Didn't Even Bother To Show Up For Omnibus Vote
Not only did the buffoons in Congress not read the $1.8 trillion omnibus bill, but more than half (226 of 426) didn’t even show up to vote. They phoned just it in. Our favorite was Michigan Democrat Rashida Tlaib, who used her proxy to vote “present” when she wasn’t there. The bill passed 225-201 with 9 Republican turncoats voting yes:
In all, 135 Democrats (62%) and 91 Republicans (43%) instead filed proxy letters saying:
"I am unable to physically attend proceedings in the House Chamber due to the ongoing public health emergency."
How are we supposed to get people back on the job when even Congress doesn’t show up to work – and they even lie about their reason for absence?
Kevin McCarthy has promised to end the proxy voting rule. Good riddance.
3) Djokovic Can Play In Australia And China But Maybe Not The US Open
Novak Djokovic is in Australia, preparing to compete at the Australian Open after last year's preposterous dismissal because he wasn’t vaccinated.
But come summer he may miss another US Open because Joe Biden still has the United States on the embarrassing list of countries that still ban billions of people from visiting based on their vaccination status – a completely nonsensical policy since being vaccinated has no impact on the spread of the virus.
China will be off that list on January 8, when its travel ban and strict quarantine requirements end.
4) Will The Last Person Leaving New York Please Turn Out The Lights?
We ran the top and bottom 10 in numeric growth last week. But which states grew and shrank the most in percentage terms (which brings into the picture the small states)? Same results: low-tax, high-freedom states are booming while the limbering liberal giants are shrinking.
Remember — there is more moisture in the warmer atmosphere. So when the temperatures are below freezing, snowfall can break records.
And scientists are studying a possible connection between the warming Arctic and cold spells in the eastern United States. The idea is that a rapidly warming Arctic can weaken the jet stream, allowing frigid polar air to travel farther south.
Uh-huh. Yep. That makes sense.
Do the climate change fanatics even have any sense of self-awareness of how deranged they are starting to sound?
