Dear John, Here at UFE, our work is blooming and the seeds we have planted before and during the pandemic are sprouting.

Let’s nurture our movements together!

Dear John,

As we approach the end of the year, we are reflecting on the impactful work we accomplished together with your support this year! One project we are celebrating focused on youth leadership and healing.

In 2022, we co-developed and launched Liberating Minds, a bilingual Youth Healing Justice Retreat Series in North Carolina. At two events in March and July, youth experienced popular economics education, healing justice circles, music, mental health trainings, and language justice.

As one youth participant explained, “I learned that our parents were victims of systems of oppression and faced traumas. Instead of always blaming them, we should use our knowledge about unlearning to help them and provide resources to them that they can use to heal unresolved traumas.

Liberating Minds Youth Healing Justice Retreat, July 2022

Liberating Minds developed like much of our work at United for a Fair Economy – collaboratively, with partner organizations, in response to their needs. Staff from Centro Unido Latino-Americano (CULA) came to a UFE Training of Trainers in the fall of 2021. At the training, they learned healing justice practices that transformed the way they were working, and they wanted to share those tools with the students in their youth programs.

Now UFE, CULA, and four additional partner organizations that work with BIPOC youth in North Carolina are forming a collective to coordinate future Liberating Minds trainings. Together, we are strengthening the ecosystem for immigrant youth leadership and economic justice in NC. Please give today to support this work!

When CULA’s Executive Director, Margarita Ramirez, heard that UFE reached over 1,766 people nationwide in 2022 with more than 70 trainings, workshops, healing circles, and other events, she said “The real number is way higher. You were able to impact the leadership of CULA, and we are duplicating the work that UFE is doing, introducing youths to an understanding of the economic system at a young age.  We see this [ripple effect] thanks to the partnership with UFE.

Your support will ensure we can continue this transformational work in the year ahead. Let’s keep multiplying our movements!

Thank you for your support!
