Dear Friends,
Since the passing of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act in 1938, new drugs were required to be tested on animals. Last week, Congress passed the FDA Modernization Act to end the requirement that experimental drugs and biological products be tested on animals, instead allowing for non-animal testing.
The bill won’t ban animal testing, but it will eliminate the requirement for animal testing, allowing the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to grant private companies the opportunity to use non-animal testing methods for new drugs.
This includes $5 million in new money to support the FDA-wide New Alternative Methods Program - AKA Non-Animal Method initiative to create new non-animal testing procedures. Unless there are non-animal test procedures created, then companies will keep testing on animals. You may recall SHARK's call-to-action on this a few months ago.
The introduction and expediency that this passed may have been influenced by the plight of the suffering dogs at Envigo, which drew nationwide attention to this issue, unlike anything else in the history of America.

Thank you to everyone who took action to help get this passed for the animals!
Over the last week, I have shared with you another year of SHARK's phenomenal successes for the animals in 2022! As we plan for the New Year, we look at all the campaigns we have to help the animals including our new issue - Mexican rodeos. This doesn't include all the unexpected animal issues that will arise throughout the year also demanding our attention. We need your help to keep working for the animals!
SHARK is a high-performing organization for the animals, yet a no-performing fundraiser. All of our donations go to our investigations, not marketing, nor fundraising, or exorbitant salaries (our President/Founder Steve Hindi is a volunteer). Few, if any, organizations can say the same. If you want maximum results for the animals, then SHARK is the organization you are looking for.
SHARK can't continue without your support. Please donate here.
