Journalism is experiencing a wave of layoffs, and Common Dreams is not immune.[link removed]
Friend—Did you see this email? We are drastically behind where we
need to be in order to fund our nonprofit, independent journalism. We
don't want to go the way of the hundreds of other publications who are
laying off staff. Will you donate to Common Dreams?

Friend,
We are seeing one of the worst winters in a generation for journalists.
CNN just announced it will cut several on-air reporters and hundreds of
staffers. Newspaper conglomerate Gannett—the owner of USA Today and
more than 100 local papers—has laid off more than 3,400 employees this
year. NPR is operating without 11% of its workforce. The Washington Post
shuttered its award-winning Sunday magazine.
Common Dreams is not immune to this bad winter.
Our donations are down 22%, and if things don’t turn around for this
crucial end-of-year drive, we will have to make difficult decisions
about staffing as well.
We set an End-of-Year campaign goal of $100,000 to power our work in
2023, and we simply cannot afford to fall short. Will you join that
special group of Common Dreams readers who make all our work possible
and make a year-end donation?

Common Dreams is different from the corporate media. We don’t have
shareholders to pay or a parent company to keep happy.
We don’t operate with any fat or excess—it’s just our website, our
equipment, and our reporters. And every single one of them is essential
to delivering the hard-hitting news that you rely on every day.
That’s why the downturn in donations is such dire news. If we don’t
hit our goal this month, we can’t afford to keep operating as we have.
It’s that simple.
Common Dreams is one of the last remaining counter-voices to corporate
media, and we can’t survive without you, our loyal readers. In this
climate of journalism layoffs, we just cannot overemphasize how
important your donation is.
