Dear John,

What a year. 2022 brought an onslaught of challenges, some expected, some not. We found that in the face of great challenges, there is an opportunity for even greater change. Every day, grassroots leaders from across the country have been on the ground, working to create solutions for their communities. To fight back against seemingly insurmountable odds. To build power.

Recently, we were saddened to lose dear friend and trailblazing feminist Dorothy Pitman Hughes, but as we reflect on her incredible life and legacy - we’re also reflecting on the next generation of activists who are carrying on the torch in the name of feminism and social justice. And were so, so proud to support these leaders.

2023 will no doubt bring new challenges to bodily autonomy, to racial justice, to democracy. However, we’re more than ready to fight these challenges head-on alongside our incredible supporters and partners.

Wishing you and your families a joyful and safe holiday season.

In solidarity,

Ruth McFarlane
Chief Advancement Officer

Ms. in the News

President & CEO Teresa C. Younger was interviewed on a recent episode of Courageous Conversations with Fran Pastore about the 2022 midterm elections, and how the outcomes affected women across the country.

“The issues that affect the lives of women are complex and deep and interconnected on every level,” said Teresa. Listen to the full episode now.

Grantee Spotlights

We recently published spotlights on Mauna Kea Education and Awareness, Healing to Action and El Pueblo. These partners are doing grassroots work that ranges from creating strategies to support survivors of gender-based violence to building collective power within the Latin American community to raising awareness of the spiritual, historical, cultural, environmental, and political significance of Mauna Kea in Hawai’i.

These spotlights, as well as all past spotlights, can be found in the Insights section of our website

Generation Spark Report

In 2020, we released the groundbreaking report, Pocket Change: How Women and Girls of Color Do More with Less, which explored philanthropic funding and investment in women and girls of color (WGOC) across the country.

With new research, surveys, and focus group participation, we’ve released an appendix, Generation Spark: Igniting, Supporting, and Propelling Girls of Color, that takes a closer look at the national landscape of programs and organizations in the U.S. Read the full appendix here, and our blog on key takeaways here.

Request for Proposals: Ms. South

We're excited to announce that we are now accepting applications to our third year of Ms. South funding! We will be making $1.5M in grants to groups led by women and girls of color in the U.S. South across the spectrum of movement building and organizing.

Learn more and apply now. Applications are due January 13.

Building the Fire Fund Convening

The Building the Fire Fund was formed to address a gap within the reproductive justice movement: a national voice for Indigenous women and birthing people.

Last month, we proudly hosted the first in-person convening, where 15 Indigenous reproductive justice leaders from the country met to build relationships and plan for the future of this movement. Read more about the convening and what’s next now.

Make an end-of-year gift to the Ms. Foundation

Because the Ms. Foundation is built on a mission to serve the greater good, we depend on support from people who believe in the importance of achieving equity and justice for all — especially women and girls of color.

As we move towards 2023, we ask you to help fund the incredibly important work ahead. Any gift made before December 31 will be matched by an incredibly generous Ms. Foundation supporter.
