White House Announces Negative Covid Test Required to Enter US from China
ABC News: Starting Jan. 5, people flying from China will need a negative COVID-19 test within two days of their departure in order to enter the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday. The newly announced restrictions come amid what the CDC called a “surge” in cases of COVID-19 in China as well as a “lack of adequate and transparent” data being reported by the Chinese government. Given this, the CDC highlighted concerns about being unable to monitor newly emerging variants of the virus ( ABC News). Fox News: Trump in January 2020 announced a plan to restrict travel from China in response to the initial COVID-19 virus spread. Hours after the announcement, Biden, on the campaign trail in Iowa, said, “This is no time for Donald Trump’s record of hysterical xenophobia and fear-mongering to lead the way instead of science.” He used the same wording in a tweet the next day. “We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering,” Biden tweeted ( Fox News).

Banned: TikTok No Longer Allowed on House-Issued Devices
Washington Post: TikTok has been banned from all U.S. House of Representatives-managed devices, according to the House’s administrative arm, ahead of a new government-wide ban of the popular Chinese-owned video app that will soon take effect. The House’s chief administrative officer cited “high risk” security concerns in a memo that ordered lawmakers and staffers on Tuesday to delete the app from government devices. The political crackdown on TikTok arises from concerns that the app could be used by Beijing to spy on or influence Americans ( Washington Post). Wall Street Journal: Biden administration officials have been negotiating with TikTok executives on measures aimed at preventing information that TikTok collects on U.S. users from being shared with Beijing. TikTok has repeatedly said that it safeguards the data of its users and wouldn’t share it with the Chinese government ( Wall Street Journal).

Southwest Airlines: “Outdated” Scheduling Software Partly to Blame for Travel Debacle
Washington Examiner: While the winter storm was a “catalyst” for the mass disruptions, Southwest Airlines Pilots Association Vice President Mike Santoro told Insider the company’s “outdated” scheduling software complicated the problem. The software is intended to track a pilot and flight attendant’s whereabouts, but it became overwhelmed and could not keep up with demand ( Washington Examiner). Fox Business: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg called on Southwest Airlines to fully compensate customers for travel and meal expenses after thousands of flights were canceled and travelers were left stranded at airports over the holidays ( Fox Business).

Ex-Twitter Staff Ran “Fauci Fan Club,” Elon Musk Reveals
Daily Wire: New Twitter chief Elon Musk claimed on Tuesday that some employees — who were at the social media platform before he took control — had used an internal Slack channel named the “Fauci Fan Club.” Musk shared the information as part of a conversation with entrepreneur Marc Andreessen ( Daily Wire). Washington Examiner: It’s not clear what conversations were held in the messaging channel or how many Twitter staff were included in it. But Musk stood by his claims, inviting the social media platform to add content notes or corrections to his thread. Musk has long criticized Fauci for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for the lockdown measures imposed in the early stages. The Twitter CEO has also suggested Fauci should be criminally charged, posting a tweet in mid-December that his “pronouns are Prosecute/Fauci” ( Washington Examiner). Elon Musk: Despite these glaring issues, Twitter nonetheless had an internal Slack channel unironically called “Fauci Fan Club” ( Twitter).

ICE Admits It Has “No Records” of 377,980 Illegal Immigrants Released Into the US
Daily Caller: U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) admitted it has “no records” of hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants released into the country with electronic tracking devices, the agency said in a Dec. 22 letter to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). ICE informed TRAC that it had “no records” of the 377,980 individuals monitored by the agency’s “Alternatives to Detention” (ATD) program used to electronically track illegal immigrants released into the country. … “ ICE’s response that they could no longer find records on immigrants in Alternatives to Detention (ATD) that they had previously released came as a shock, particularly after they informed us recently that they had been misleading the public for several months by releasing extremely inaccurate ATD data. The agency really needs to come clean. The American public deserves to have accurate data about the ATD program,” TRAC assistant Professor Austin Kocher told the Daily Caller News Foundation ( Daily Caller).

Why Work? In 14 States, Welfare and Benefit Handouts Pay More
HotAir: One of the great “mysteries” that has been puzzling lawmakers in the swamp is the fact that the American labor force is still “missing” more than three million workers who were employed before COVID struck and could be working today. So where are all of these people and why haven’t they gone out to take new jobs? One factor that is contributing to the relatively low labor force participation rate is the combination of unemployment benefits and recently expanded Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, according a new study by the nonprofit Committee to Unleash Prosperity. In 14 states, unemployment benefits and ACA subsidies for a family of four with two people not working amounts to an annualized equivalent of $80,000 a year in wages and benefits, the study found. As noted above, 14 states are doling out that much. In three states, Washington, Massachusetts, and New Jersey, those benefits add up to more than $100K per year. Unfortunately, there is almost nobody in Washington who would raise their hand to say that perhaps we went a bit overboard with all of these benefits ( HotAir).

IRS Delays $600 Filing Rule for Gig Workers Who Use Payment Apps
Townhall: The IRS has decided, as The Wall Street Journal scooped Tuesday, to delay the implementation of a rule that would require many Americans who are active in the gig economy — and using Venmo, eBay, AirBnB, Etsy, et al. — to report anything more than $600 in revenue. … The changed reporting threshold for those active in the gig economy came via the American Rescue Plan passed by Congress in 2021 and, if it does eventually take effect, will lead to a significant increase in 1099-K filings that the IRS will add to a growing backlog of more than two million 2021 year tax filings ( Townhall). Wall Street Journal: Now, platform sellers and the IRS won’t receive a blizzard of 1099-K tax forms early in 2023 for their 2022 sales. The move comes as a relief to taxpayers and tax preparers who had been bracing for a messy tax-filing season. The change also gives opponents of the $600 threshold more time to push for a change in the law next year ( Wall Street Journal).

Trump Court Advantage: President Trump’s Appointees Keep Courts in Check
Washington Times: President Biden has appointed more district court judges than his predecessor did during the first 23 months of their presidencies. Still, court watchers say, Mr. Biden hasn’t reversed the conservative bent that President Trump and Senate Republicans cemented. They say most of Mr. Biden’s nominees have replaced Democratic judges, not Republican appointees. Mr. Trump was able to flip many seats — including circuit court posts — to Republican jurists ( Washington Times).

Australia Allows Tennis Star Novak Djokovic to Return a Year After Deportation Due to Vax Refusal
CNN: Novak Djokovic is back in Australia, according to a spokesperson with Tennis Australia, nearly a year after his high-profile visa ban from the country over his stance on the Covid-19 vaccination. The 21-time grand slam champion is slated to open his 2023 tennis season next week. The Serbian was deported from Australia in January after former immigration minister Alex Hawke found the tennis star posed a risk to public health and order because, as a celebrity sportsman who had previously expressed opposition to people being compelled to get the Covid-19 vaccine, he could be seen as an “icon” for anti-vaxxers. The minister’s decision to deport the former world No. 1 men’s player meant he was initially banned from reentry for three years ( CNN). Fox News: Djokovic has openly defended his choice not to get the vaccine, regardless of what tournaments in 2022 would allow him to compete. He competed at the French Open in May, when he lost in the quarterfinals to Rafael Nadal, and won Wimbledon for his 21st Grand Slam title. He was not able to travel to the U.S. to compete at the U.S. Open because of travel restrictions, not because of tournament rules. Djokovic is pursuing his 10th Australian Open title. The Australian Open begins in Melbourne on Jan. 16 ( Fox News).

Dennis Prager rants about how the medical establishment lied about the vaccine, lockdowns and masks, and how society has paid the price
Dennis Prager: On the issue of the vaccine, they need to study all health outcomes over the long term, vaxed versus unvaxed. And that was a law but they have ignored it for three and a half decades, and they have not been held accountable.
I have lost all faith in the medical profession and in the...
