I’m pleased to share our polling project with you—it’s a new and exciting tool in Heritage Action’s toolbox as we continue to fight for our shared conservative values.

Yesterday, Heritage Action released <[link removed]> its findings from three major polls we conducted of likely 2020 voters.

We hired the most reputable, conservative polling firms (the guys that correctly predicted that Donald Trump would win when no one else did) to help us find out what issues motivate the coalition that elected Donald Trump and Republican congressional majorities in 2016 so that we can keep that coalition together in 2020. We wanted to find the issues that will bring victory in 2020 while advancing conservative principles and policies.

I want to share with you what we found.

Our polling shows that the GOP isn’t connecting the dots between its own conservative principles and what voters really want. I wrote about this in detail in yesterday's Politico Magazine <[link removed]>.

The good news is that conservative principles still appeal to the majority of Americans—we just need to remind them.

Here are just three examples of winning issues:


- Illegal immigration’s burden on social services. Most politicians focus on illegal immigration’s effect on crime and drugs. Although true and serious, we found that 47% of national election Republican voters believe overuse of social services is the greatest challenge illegal immigrants pose to America. When factoring in those who answered “all of the above,” 70% of Republican voters believe that overuse of social services is a challenge. A shift in messaging is needed.
- Rejecting single-payer health care. Voters in five key swing states overwhelmingly reject single-payer healthcare; 65% of respondents oppose the policy while only 27% support it. Nationally, 53% of voters reject single-payer health care as well.
- Pro-life protections for abortion survivors. We found that 76% of likely voters support pro-life protections for children born alive during abortions.
