Quick
update:

When war in Ukraine erupted in February, it set off a catastrophic chain
of events with global ramifications: more than 7 million people fleeing
across Europe, wheat harvests destroyed, supply chains thrown into
disarray.

It has all added up to a dramatic escalation of a global food crisis that
was already driving millions of people into extreme hunger after years of
drought across the Horn of Africa region. In Somalia, for example, the
expected rains from March through May were the lowest in 70 years — and
we’re currently in the midst of yet another failed rainy season.

This kind of urgent need is why our final Matching Gift Challenge of the
year is so important. A group of generous donors has already given
$400,000 to encourage our community of givers to make a matching gift.

card, PayPal, or Apple Pay.

You can help turn crisis to recovery with a matching gift that will
multiply your impact for families around the globe.

In Somalia, Fadumo feeds the dregs of her morning tea leaves to her last
surviving camel. She and her family are staying in a camp for displaced
families, where Mercy Corps is providing water, food, and cash assistance.

The compounding crises of climate change and conflict have upended lives
and livelihoods across Somalia, pushing millions to the brink of famine.

Farmers are watching crops die, leaving nothing to sell or eat. Grazing
land has dried up, leaving pastoralists without food or water to feed
their livestock. As people are forced to migrate and resources are scarce,
conflict is likely to increase.

Mercy Corps’ response to this growing hunger catastrophe — in Somalia and
in dozens more countries — is to deliver immediate, lifesaving relief and
to partner with communities to build resilience over the long term. From
cash assistance to agricultural support, irrigation to business training,
we’re helping families build their own brighter future.

[ [link removed] ]Before the year ends, please make your tax-deductible matching gift to
help build inclusive, resilient communities in the year ahead.

Thanks for showing up during this critical time,

The Mercy Corps team

P.S. We know you’re hearing a lot from us these days. The reason is
simple: Every dollar we raise right now helps the people we work with
protect their families and improve their lives. If you’ve already made
your gift (thank you!) or would rather not get our year-end emails,
