Nathan's next birthday would be his last.

When Nathan was an infant, he was treated for undifferentiated
sarcoma, a cancer in his abdominal wall. Then, at age 4, he was
diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare type of cancerous tumor that
affects mostly children and teenagers.
