2023 OCA Summer Internship Program
We are now accepting applications for our 2023 summer internship program, which will be hosted in Washington, D.C. from June 5 to August 11, 2023. Undergraduate students (and recent grads) who identify as Asian American or Pacific Islander (AAPI) are highly encouraged to apply.
** For more than 30 years, OCA National Center has hosted the oldest and largest program for Asian American and Pacific Islander college students in the nation’s capital.
------------------------------------------------------------
The OCA Internship Program is one of OCA's signature student programs. Having recently celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2019, the internship program seeks to cultivate future leadership for the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community by providing opportunities to work in the public sector and learn about issues affecting AAPIs. Based in the nation's capital, interns will learn to build relationships, meet with legislative officials, and engage in leadership development workshops.
The program has successfully led past interns to become more active on their college campus and increased the presence of the APA community in local, state, and federal governments. OCA intern alumni have become executive directors, legislative staffers, OCA National Executive Council members, and are leaders in the private and public sector.
Selected applicants relocate to Washington, D.C. for the duration of their internship, where they are placed with nonprofits, federal agencies, and other organizations for a full-time internship. Each Friday, interns gather at the OCA National office to discuss issues and engage in workshops dedicated to AAPI issues. We call these convenings “Sama Sama” which is Tagalog for together. Interns also attend OCA’s National Convention, which will be hosted in Washington, D.C. in 2023 in honor of OCA’s 50th anniversary. In addition to these events, OCA interns are also provided opportunities to build their professional, personal, and advocacy skills to create compassionate leaders in the AAPI community.
** The Priority Deadline to apply is Sunday, January 29, 2023 at 11:59 PM PT. The Final Deadline to apply is Sunday, 12, 2023 at 11:59 PM PT.

In their own words
Jay Moran, 2022 Intern: “My experience as an OCA intern can be summed up by two words: growth and family. You don’t come out of OCA without bonds you will hold on to for the rest of your life. My cohort and the OCA Staff became a community, one of nurturing, respect, teaching, and love. And because of that, they pushed me to grow and develop like never before.”
Kiran Rudra, 2022 Intern: “OCA was an amazing opportunity for me to connect with other AAPI peers who are interested in advocacy work, as well as learn more about the industry itself. The cohort experience helped me find a home and community in unexpected places and people!”
Ashley Rajavadee, 2019 Intern: “My OCA internship experience was unforgettable. I was able to discover career opportunities and learn so much about Asian American issues and nonprofit organizations, while also forming genuine friendships with the best cohort ever. OCA gave me the resources and confidence to be my best self.”
