Our grassroots community worked diligently this past election and helped Democrats win tough races across the country.
Democrats outperformed expectations during an election with historic headwinds. We held our majority in the Senate, and Republicans hold only a narrow majority in the House.
As we prepare to enter a new term in Congress, we’re also getting ready to usher in a new generation of leaders, John.
I will take on a new role as Assistant Democratic Leader. I’m looking forward to guiding the new Democratic leaders to build on the historic progress we’ve delivered for the American people -- including lowering prescription costs for people on Medicare, rebuilding our infrastructure, and passing the first new gun-safety law in decades.
I’m looking forward to working with Leader Hakeem Jeffries -- who’s making history as the first Black member of Congress to lead either party in either chamber of Congress -- Whip Katherine Clark, and Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar. I’m confident in their ability to lead us forward, advance our agenda, and continue making America’s greatness accessible and affordable to all.
Our top priority remains the same: to put people over politics. To be a voice for communities that have historically been left out of the decision-making process and economic progress. To help working families get back on their feet.
Those are the principles I’ve fought for my entire life -- from my time as a leader in the Civil Rights Movement and during my entire tenure in Congress.
Grassroots supporters have a big role to play in this next chapter of our movement, and I want to know that you’ll be a part of it, John. If you’re committed to staying engaged in our efforts, please add your name to mine today.
Thank you,
Jim
