We're closing out 2022 with focus, having spent the year strengthening our work for the next phase! From our team of 50 people, our grassroots partners, and supporters like you – we've been on the ground, in courthouses, state houses, and in trainings building toward the future we want to see. 

Check out below for a breakdown of our biggest wins and highlights of 2022!

Advancement Project was able to spend 2022 strengthening our work for the next phase. This is only possible because of supporters like you—please donate today to our Liberation Fund to help us and our partners sustain our movement.

• Held our first major in-person convening following the pandemic that brought together over 25 organizations and 100 youth organizers from across the U.S for our National Police Free Schools convening.

• Developed our campaign to advocate for a right to education—researching history, creating political education tools, piloting trainings, and connecting with potential partners in the South.

• Began work focused specifically on ending the criminalization and abuse of Black girls in and around public schools. 

• Created a national narrative and public education campaign, How Cops Get Off, to educate communities on the systems and narratives that protect police departments from being held accountable.

• Trained our first cohort of lawyers this year in DC, based on our movement lawyering model. We've already connected the cohort to our partners at DefundMPD to help increase their capacity, specifically with their No More Stop & Frisk campaign. 

• Settled our litigation in East Baton Rouge, challenging the cash bail system and processes of the court. Our settlement ensures more protection for newly detained people in East Baton Rouge.

As we’ve expanded our reach to push and implement our programmatic vision – we also had an organizational restructure! 

As we expand our movement building, we are paving the way for new, more inclusive opportunities for Black people and other people of color.
