Dear friend, We hope that this email finds you and your family in best of winter spirits. This year, with your support, we have created pathways for over 4,100 immigrants towards safety, stability, and opportunity. With your donation today, Rian can continue to provide expert services to immigrants with complex and urgent cases. Recently a community legal aid organization referred a young woman, Rose, to Rian for help with her application for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS). This immigration status is designated for kids under 21 who have been abandoned, abused, or neglected by one or both parents and for whom it would not be in their best interest to return or stay in their home country. Rose was only ten years old when she first arrived in the U.S. She and her older sister were sent to the U.S by her father, who wanted to keep them away from their mother during a heated custody battle. Upon arrival, she spent many years in an abusive environment. Recently, not long before Rose’s 21st birthday, her sister earned enough to get an apartment and helped Rose escape the abuse and report it to the police. The police referred the case to a legal aid organization, and the legal aid organization referred the case to Rian due to our expertise in SIJS and our ability to move quickly on complex and urgent cases. Our attorneys were able to file an emergency motion and represent Rose in court just before she turned 21. By getting Rose’s application to immigration two days prior to her 21st birthday, Rian preserved Rose’s options as a Special Immigrant Juvenile. She was also referred to Rian’s social worker for therapeutic counseling to help her process her trauma. Moreover, the social worker was able to help Rose enroll in MassHealth, which qualifies Rose for a waiver of the hefty Green Card application fee and will assist her in getting a work permit within the next few months. While her journey isn’t yet over, Rose is now on a pathway to safety and stability and has the legal and social services support she needs to obtain legal status in the U.S. Your gift can do twice as much for immigrants like Rose. All donations made by December 31st will be matched dollar for dollar - please make a donation today, and partner with us in providing critical services to the immigrant community.
